International Consultation on Incontinence Long-Term Indwelling Catheter Users (ICIQ-LTCqol)

Summary:
Long-term indwelling catheters (three months or longer) are commonly associated with complications including urinary tract infection, blockage and leakage all of which are known to be detrimental to quality of life. The ICIQ-LTCqol is a validated tool to specifically evaluate the impact on quality of life and outcome of treatment in long-term catheter users. The ICIQ-LTCqol provides a comprehensive, robust, universally-applicable, device-specific, self-completion questionnaire to assess the impact of living with a long term catheter from the individual’s perspective. The necessity to reflect the patient’s perspective is paramount for quality of life evaluation. This questionnaire is of use to district nurses, general practitioners and clinicians in both primary and secondary care institutions to obtain a brief yet comprehensive summary of the impact of living with a long term catheter and to facilitate patient-clinician discussions, in addition to research purposes.
